This resource relates to Canadian currency - nickels, dimes, quarters and dollars (loonies). The worksheets are in colour and black and white. WITH ANSWER SHEETS Each of the four worksheets contain a variety of tasks for students to complete on the topic of buying school supplies/stationery. Worksheet 1 - Students look at the pictures and price of each item and then work out how much two items of school supplies cost. Two questions at the bottom: Which student spent the most? Which student spent the least amount of money? Worksheet 2 - This worksheet is similar to the above except students are working out what 3 items of school supplies cost. Worksheet 3 - Students answer 6 questions about the items, e.g. Which item is the most expensive? How much less do the crayons cost than the ruler? The next task is to write the new price for each item which has risen by 10c. Worksheet 4 - The first task is to write the new price of the items which have risen by 20c. Second task - to add up 3 items of school supplies at the new price. Worksheet 5 - Sale Now On! - Students reduce the price of each item by 5 cents. This is a reading comprehension for early readers relating to Valentine’s Day. The text contains high frequency words and decodable words. There are 4 questions and a sheet of general questions for the teacher/educator. Ideal for guided reading and for more able early readers who are confident in decoding words and know some of their high frequency words. Detailed Teacher’s Notes included. This Saint Valentine’s Day reading comprehension is divided into four sections from A to D with questions below each section. There are not more than 5 questions for each passage. See below for extra activities. All four passages tell the story of Saint Valentine. In the teacher’s notes, I have suggested questions to create interest before handing out the reading comprehension. As a whole class activity, you can read the whole story and then ask questions about what you have read and asking some children/students to summarise, before small and/or independent group work. The reading comprehension requires students to: • Look for evidence in the passages • Make inference • Give their opinion • Select correct answers from multiple choice questions • Correct spelling errors in a paragraph (sight words, phonetically misspelt words and homophones). The extra activities are: Reading two paragraphs and correcting the spelling errors; and Complete a short writing task – Write a sentence or two on what hope, kindness and love mean to them. This is a reading comprehension activity. The reading covers three pages with a word count (including title) of 648 words. The topic relates to Epiphany, i.e. what it means and some of the countries that celebrate this Christian festival. There are 17 questions and tasks for students to do and they include finding evidence in the text, spelling, grammar and word work. Students read the first two pages and then as additional work they can go straight onto reading page three with additional activities. To begin the lesson, find out what students know about Epiphany and how it relates to the Christmas story before handing out the reading comprehension. You can use this resource for guided reading. This resource relates to Would you rather questions. Children must choose one of the questions posed and have the option of saying why they chose that answer. There are a set of worksheets with follow-up activities and Would You Rather … cards. You can use: before the main lesson as a fun activity, fill in extra time use in circle time/citizenship use as a back to school activity to create conversation use it as a way to get children talking and listening. Some of questions are funny, silly and make children thing about serious issues in a light-hearted way.
